Players usually participate at this level during their first two years of involvement. Basic skills are developed in a fun and less competitive atmosphere. The emphasis is to develop basic skills so a child will enjoy early success, which leads to a longer period of growth and development. Participants are grouped with the players who have similar abilities to permit success yet some degree of challenge. With adequate skill development, there is a major reduction in children “dropping out” of hockey because they feel they are falling behind and cannot compete.
If you have a son or daughter just starting to play and you would like to get involved, our Developing Mites Program is a great opportunity. You can attend a local coaching clinic, become certified, and take an active role in developing our players' essential skills. Contact a CCJHA Board member for more information.
