District and State Playoffs
Squirts, Pee Wees, Bantams, and Midgets participate in the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) "B" Championship. The MAHA District 8 "Playdowns" are a set of weekend tournaments used to determine the teams that get into the District 8 Tournament, which is the first round of the State Tournament. The Playdowns are necessary because the District Tournament only has room for 8 teams, but there are more than 8 associations in the District. The playdowns typically start in mid-January. Dates and locations may be found on the Important Dates page and/or the CUP League page.
The CCJHA must determine one team to represent the Association in the District Tournament at each level. Since the District playdowns start in the middle of January, the CCJHA must hold a playoff in December and early January to select our entrants. The games will clearly be marked "playoff" or "PO" on the schedules. A round-robin series will be played to determine the CCJHA entrants. The round-robin format and timing vary from year to year depending on the number of teams in the division and the available ice time.
The District 8 Tournament is held at multiple sites across the UP in the middle of February. The winner of the District 8 tournament will represent the District at the MAHA State Tournament, which is held at various locations throughout the state in early March. State Tournament dates and locations are publicized at MAHA.org.
Travel teams and girls teams may participate in the State Tournament as well. Coaches will inform the players and parents about this in person.
