Register for the Thatcher Markham Memorial Run!

Calling all CCJHA families! On Friday, June 12, please join us for the Annual Thatcher Markham Memorial Run.

We are proud to honor the memory of Thatcher Markham with this 5K run/walk event that supports the Copper Country Junior Hockey Association and Pigs 'N Heat (Copper Country Police and Fire Relief Fund) in their missions to promote youth sports and support local fire/crime victims in the Copper Country.

Thatcher's family and our community tragically lost Thatcher at 12 years old as a victim of the 2018 Father's Day flood in northern Houghton County. His memory has lived on through many local events and remembrances and this race is another way to make sure he is never forgotten by everyone in the Copper Country. It is also fitting that remembering Thatcher will help us with assisting local youth sports - Thatcher himself was a longtime CCJHA player - and local first-responders in their charitable work.

Whether you run, walk, or volunteer, we need you! Here is how you can get involved:

🏃‍♂️ RUN OR WALK THE 5K - Experience the best route in the Keweenaw! This is your only chance to run or walk through downtown Hancock and Houghton, and right across the Portage Lake Lift Bridge on entirely closed streets. The race kicks off at 7:00 PM. Bring the whole family—strollers and casual walkers are absolutely welcome!

🙌 VOLUNTEER TO HELP - An event this big takes a full team effort. If you aren't planning to run or walk, volunteers are needed to help with packet pickup, course setup, water stations, and cheering on the participants! Bonus: most volunteer spots wrap up in time for you to still catch the Bridgefest parade.

To volunteer, please email the Thatcher Markham Race Coordinator.

Let’s show our CCJHA pride and make sure Thatcher is never forgotten. See you at the starting line!
